The entire project rests on a solid foundation of a concrete slab at Brookline Concrete Services. The professional concrete slab installation services provided by our team will establish a solid, level surface for your construction project, whether it be the completion of a garden shed, the finishing of a basement, or the construction of a new commercial building.
Settling cracks in concrete slabs, moisture issues, and even structural damage can result from a poorly constructed concrete slab. We take the time to do things right from day one so that costly repairs are avoided. The experienced concrete slab installers at Brookline Concrete Services understand how to assess the soil conditions, determine the appropriate thickness of the concrete slab based upon those conditions, identify necessary reinforcements as well, and determine how to properly drain water from under the concrete slab based upon local conditions throughout the Brookline area.
A concrete slab is a flat horizontal surface of poured concrete, serves as a foundation for buildings, floor surfaces, and a base for outdoor features & equipment. High quality concrete slabs are built on solid site preparation, the right amount of thickness, correct reinforcement, and the best possible finish.
There are many differences in the performance of a good concrete slab and a poor-performing concrete slab: compaction of base material; proper grading of the site to drain water properly; the right mix of concrete to be used; correct amount of reinforcement used; and an adequate curing time. Every detail of a concrete slab needs to be done properly.

We develop the design of a concrete slab in accordance with the purpose of the slab. A garden shed foundation will have a different specification than a garage floor or a basement slab. The loads that the slab will support, the soils beneath it, and the environmental conditions surrounding it are evaluated to determine the:
Thickness (usually between 4-6 inches for residential uses)
Type and placement of reinforcement (rebar or wire mesh)
Depth and type of base material
Needs for drainage
Location of expansion joints
Each of our concrete slab designs is developed specifically to meet the needs of your particular project and the soil conditions found in Brookline.

We follow a proven process for quality results:
The following is a description of the methods used by our company to ensure a quality product:
Site Evaluation: We examine the site and determine the soil type, drainage characteristics, and existing grade of the land. The findings of this evaluation will help us determine the quantity of base material required as well as identify potential problems that may need to be addressed.
Excavation: We remove all of the topsoil and any other unsuitable materials from the site down to a depth equal to the required thickness of the slab plus the amount of base material that will be placed under the slab.
Base Preparation: We place and compact the gravel base in layers. This provides a stable base that prevents settling of the slab and allows water to drain through the base of the slab.
Form Setting: We set the forms to establish the edges of the slab, the thickness of the slab, and the elevation of the slab. The forms are used to establish straight edges and dimensions of the slab.
Vapor Barrier Installation: When constructing an indoor slab or when the slab is exposed to moisture, such as with outdoor applications, we install a vapor barrier to prevent moisture migration into the slab.
Reinforcement Placement: We install wire mesh or rebar in the concrete slab in accordance with engineering specifications to provide crack control and strength to the slab.
Concrete Placement: We place high-quality concrete to the correct thickness and consolidate the concrete to eliminate voids.
Finishing: We screed, float, and finish the surface of the slab to create a level and smooth slab. The finished texture of the slab will depend on the intended use of the slab.
Curing: After the slab has been finished, we protect the fresh concrete and maintain the proper moisture levels during the critical curing period. The curing process determines the final strength of the slab.
Joint Cutting: After the slab has cured sufficiently, we cut the control joints at strategic locations to control where cracking occurs and to keep it hidden within planned joints rather than random cracking areas.
A perimeter concrete slab is a great way to create a low-maintenance area surrounding your residence. The concrete slab will give you an excellent place to set your outside furniture, eliminate mud and grass from touching your home’s foundation, and direct water flow away from your home.
Add a stable base to your garden shed by creating a concrete slab around it to stop it from settling and to keep the moisture out of the items in your shed. We pour the slabs to fit your shed exactly and include proper base preparation so that we don’t have to worry about future movement.
We offer concrete slabs for pools as a way to add safety, comfort, and stability to your pool area. We are able to build slabs for pools with proper drainage to allow the water to run off properly and not sit on top of the slabs.
Hot tubs need significant support, especially when they are loaded up; some spas can be over 5,000 pounds. We design our concrete slabs for hot tubs to support these large loads. They are engineered to be thicker and reinforced than most other concrete slabs.
Are you building a new home or addition? We pour foundation slabs that meet or exceed all local building codes and engineering specs. Our concrete slab for home applications includes vapor barriers, perimeter insulation (when applicable), and reinforcement to meet all local building code requirements.

Knowledge of Engineering: We can determine a project’s load requirements, what type of reinforcement is necessary, and the correct thickness for a given application.
On-Site Experience: We’ve dealt with Brookline’s varying types of soil and know how to build a stable base even on difficult terrain.
Quality Materials: We utilize the right mix of concrete, sufficient reinforcement, and, in some cases, the best available vapor barrier.
Appropriate Equipment: We have the tools required to perform the excavation, grading, finishing, and cutting that will produce a professional job.
Building Code Compliance: We are familiar with Brookline’s local building codes and will ensure that your slab complies with all the applicable codes.
Reasonable Scheduling: We take into consideration weather, material delivery, and cure times. We will not rush the job to meet an artificial deadline.
